Accessibility

Museum

Please note: the museum main entrances are not yet accessible. We apologize for this. There are several steps at the door on Ludviginkatu. There is one step at the door on Korkeavuorenkatu.

Our most accessible entrance is the museum’s old door, in front of which a lightweight, portable ramp for wheelchairs will be added. This door is on Ludviginkatu, from the museum’s main doors towards Erottajankatu. This door is usually locked, and we will open it when needed.

If you need a ramp or additional information about you arrival, please contact the opening hours by phone: 020 720 9810. We will update the information here when the door on Korkeavuorenkatu is modified to be fully accessible.

The museum has two floors. For wheelchair users, there is an elevator providing access to the printing cellar.

The information desk, the coat racks as well as the toilets are situated in the first floor. There are three unisex toilets, and one of them is accessible.

Guide or assistance dogs (and other dogs as well) are warmly welcome to assist their owner during the visit.

Please note that the museum offers Sensory-Friendly Hours on the last Tuesday of each month at 3-5 pm.

Archives

The entrance to the archives is not entirely accessible. There are steps and thresholds at the front door as well as in the second floor.

Merkki for kids

The exhibitions are suitable for all ages. The Lukemisen ilo – Joy of Reading permanent exhibition is specifically designed for children. Look for the big yellow arch to find the kids’ space. There you can find information on the Aku Ankka (Donald Duck) comic books, explore children’s news and relax in a cosy reading nook.

Merkki offers interactive exhibitions for kids on a changing basis.
