Media Evening: Finland says it needs experts but wants cheap labor

Why is it so hard for foreigners to find work in Finland? Why do so many highly educated immigrants still end up in service and sales jobs, as cleaners, or as platform economy workers?

During the evening, we’ll explore photographer Veera Kontula’s photo series portraying highly educated immigrants in Finland and hear from journalist Paavo Teittinen, author of the Finlandia Prize-nominated book Pitkä vuoro (The Long Shift).

After that, Yulie Anggraeni, Kayleigh Karinen, and Martin-Éric Racine, who have all sought work in Finland, will share their views on what could be done to improve employment opportunities.

The photo exhibition opens at 5 PM, and the discussion begins at 5:30 PM. The discussion will be held in English. Free entry, no registration required.

Organized by Helsingin Sanomain Säätiö and Viestintä ja kehitys -säätiö (Vikes). Welcome!
